The Moggill Marathon Committee was formed after David Ember and Emil Schoeman created their own ‘Moggill Marathon’ event when the Brisbane Marathon 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic. The committee is made up of a group of local community members and is an initiative of the Lions Club of Brisbane West .Inc.
They recognised there is a keen interest in running in the area and wanted to have a key event that highlights the beautiful area that is Moggill by providing an annual community event that can continue to grow and support local community.
We welcome the input of the running and local community, please contact us if you want to be involved at hello@moggillmarathon.com.au
Professional Traffic Management has been secured - there will be NO road closures and no impact to residents on the day.
Last year we were fortunate to contribute proceeds from the event to Bravery Box (supporting children and teens through cancer treatment) and 11 local community groups. This year, with your contribution, we are hoping to do the same, and fingers crossed for some great weather on the day too.
We want to provide residents with reassurance that there are no full road closures for this event and residents will be able to leave and return to their properties at all times.
The event is being managed by professional traffic management, the Moggill State Emergency Service (SES) with support from Queensland Police Service (QPS), Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) and Brisbane City Council (BCC).
The primary focus of the day will be to ensure the safety of everyone involved and to minimise the impact on the local community. Council officers will be in attendance to ensure compliance with local laws.
We ask that you exercise caution for the runners participating in the event, with only minor delays of a few minutes could be expected, if any. Please share this message within your network to help ensure everyone is well informed.

2025 Wrap-Up
POOLWERX MOGGILL MARATHON - FUNDS RAISED 2025
On behalf of the Lions Club of Brisbane West, we are delighted to share the funds raised from the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon 2025 and celebrate the incredible success of this year’s event.
Sunday 18 May marked our biggest and most successful event to date, with 1,250 participants joining us from across Brisbane, around Australia and overseas. The positive energy, community spirit and incredible effort from all involved created a truly memorable day for everyone.
More than half of our runners and walkers came from Brisbane’s western suburbs, while others travelled from across New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory. Internationally, participants joined us from Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Spain. Our furthest Australian traveller came from the Uluru region, while our furthest international participant made the journey from La Vall D’en Bas, Spain, highlighting the growing reputation of the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon as a truly global community event.
More than 100 volunteers generously donated their time to help deliver the event, from serving water, marshalling runners and assisting with registrations, to keeping event operations running smoothly. Our 21 sponsors underpinned the event with their support and engagement throughout the lead-up and on event day, delivering excellent activations, interaction and giveaways. We especially thank our major sponsors, Poolwerx, Heritage Bank Community Branch Karalee, Moggill Discount Drug Store and The Local Bulletin, whose contribution and ongoing commitment help make this event possible. We also couldn’t have done it without our delivery partners including QPS, QAS, BCC, the Pullenvale Ward Office, TMR, Moggill Electorate Office, Sports Event Services and Altus Traffic Management. Their expertise and improvements each year continue to enhance the event.
The Poolwerx Moggill Marathon is a community-driven, not-for-profit event. Thanks to the efforts of this incredible team, the event generated an outstanding $48,531, which will be donated to Bravery Box, local schools, community groups and subsequent community initiatives.
Allocation of funds and beneficiaries
Bravery Box – $26,000
We were proud to support Bravery Box as our main beneficiary, providing vital support to children, teens and families facing cancer. A huge thank you to our runners and walkers, whose donations totalled $2,913. The Poolwerx Moggill Marathon contributed an additional $23,087, bringing the total donation to Bravery Box to $26,000.
Local Schools and Community Groups – $22,531
The Poolwerx Moggill Marathon is only possible thanks to the time, energy and dedication of our incredible volunteers, schools, community groups and support teams. In recognition of their involvement, support and contribution to this year’s event, funds were distributed to the following groups:
Brisbane West Uniting Church
Moggill SES Group
Moggill State School
Pullenvale State School
Mount Crosby State School
Kenmore South State School
Moggill Historical Society
Moggill Girl Guides
Moggill Scout Group
Pullen Pullen Catchments Group
Indooroopilly Rover Scout Unit
Lions Club of Brisbane West
The funds raised by the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon will make a huge difference, supporting families of children undergoing cancer treatment through our donation to Bravery Box. These funds will also assist local schools and community groups to continue their vital work in the areas of education, youth development, inclusion and environmental care, helping to make our community stronger and more connected.
The 2025 Poolwerx Moggill Marathon wasn’t just about running. It was about community, inspiration and those moments that stay with you. One participant summed it up perfectly, describing the incredible feeling of finally crossing the finish line after years of dreaming about it, the support and kindness from volunteers along the course, and the camaraderie between runners of all abilities. As she simply put it: “It was an epic event I’ll never forget.”
The Lions Club of Brisbane West would like to thank all involved — runners, walkers, sponsors, volunteers, support teams, residents, local businesses and organisations who contributed and supported this incredible event. Together, you made a positive difference in our community and had a load of fun along the way.
We’re already looking ahead to next year. The 5-year anniversary of the Poolwerx Moggill Marathon will be held on Sunday 17 May 2026. Let’s keep improving, getting active and giving back as a team.
Lock it in, and we’ll see you again next year!
